Your California CA number, cut to match the rest of your door lettering.
The CA number is issued by the CHP and is one of the few state carrier numbers that is a genuine on-vehicle display requirement rather than a credential you carry in the cab.
Before you buy, check this
CVC 34507.5(f)(1) exempts a vehicle that already displays a valid USDOT number, and 13 CCR 1256 says the same thing. Since 2016 a CA number cannot even be issued without a USDOT number first. So a lot of carriers who think they need this do not. Message us with your operation and we will tell you straight, even if the answer is that you should not buy this listing.
Vinyl or magnet, both are legal
13 CCR 1256 allows the markings to be printed on the vehicle or to consist of a removable device. California does not require permanent lettering, so if you would rather have this on a magnet, order our magnetic door signs and we will put the CA number on those instead.
What you get
Two decals, one for each side, sized to sit with your USDOT lettering in the same font and weight.
How it works
- Add to cart and type your details in the text box above the Add-to-cart button.
- We email you a proof, laid out to scale on a mock-up of your surface (send a photo of your door, window or truck and we lay it on that), usually same day.
- You approve it. Then we cut. Nothing gets cut before you say yes.
Installs in minutes
Every decal ships pre-masked on transfer tape as one piece. Clean the surface, tape it in place, peel, squeegee, pull the tape off. Written instructions in every order.
Free digital proof (usually same business day). Free U.S. shipping. Ships 1–2 business days after proof approval from Las Vegas, NV. Orders of 30+ sets with multi-color logos ship in 3–5 business days.

California CA numbers, explained
The CA number is California's motor carrier identification number. Under California Vehicle Code 34507.5, a carrier gets a USDOT number first and then the CA number, and the identification number goes on both sides of the vehicle. The same section lets a valid USDOT number satisfy that display requirement (CVC 34507.5(f)(1)), but most California carriers show both lines, USDOT over CA, and that is what we recommend: inspectors and customers see both numbers they might look for.
Who needs one
The requirement reaches trucks over 10,000 lbs and vehicles hauling property for compensation at any weight. Exemptions include pickups in noncommercial, private use, implements of husbandry and historical vehicles (CVC 34507.5(e)). California truck marking requirements sets out the full rule with citations.
The name line, and used trucks
California also asks for the operator's name or trademark on both sides of many commercial vehicles (CVC 27900). If you bought a used truck, the previous company's name has to come off or be covered within 60 days (CVC 27900(d)); our guide to removing old truck lettering shows how. The Full Compliance Kit covers the name, USDOT, MC and GVW lines in one matched order, and this CA set is cut in the same font and colors to sit under them.
Format and size
We cut it as CA followed by your number, in the height and color you pick, one decal for each side. Match the height of your USDOT line so the stack reads as one block. USDOT decals for California trucks has the rest of the California set.
Rules summarized here are for general information; what applies depends on your vehicle and operation. The CHP, the DMV and FMCSA have the final word.
