North Carolina intrastate vehicles over 26,000 lbs GVWR display the owner's name and the motor carrier identification number preceded by USDOT and followed by NC — USDOT 1234567 NC — on each side, in letters not less than 3 inches high. That is a statutory inch minimum, not just a readability standard, which is why this listing starts at 3 inches.
Vehicles licensed at the farmer rate (G.S. 20-88) are excepted, and interstate trucks subject to 49 CFR Part 390 follow the federal marking rule instead.
