Who this is for
Anyone lettering a trailer to match the tractor or truck pulling it. Federal marking rules apply to the power unit, not the trailer — so a trailer package is about identification (name, unit number) and any weight or lessor line your state or contract requires. USDOT on the trailer is optional unless someone requires it; tell us and we add it at no charge.
What's actually required?
Federal rule 49 CFR §390.21 requires your legal or trade name and USDOT number on both sides of the power unit, legible from 50 ft. The MC number is not a federal marking (many carriers add it); GVW/GVWR is a state-level requirement in some states. Not sure which lines your operation needs? Sizes — why we recommend Large
Trailer sides are huge and seen from far away, so we recommend Large: name 4" tall, unit / weight lines 3" tall, up to 36" wide — good for the front corner of a dry van or the nose of an enclosed trailer. Application (about 15 minutes)
