Magnet care, the honest version
Magnets hold on clean, flat, painted steel. They do not hold on aluminum doors (many newer trucks!), textured wraps, or over body lines. Pull them weekly to wipe both surfaces — trapped grit is what scratches paint, not the magnet. We include care instructions in every order.

Living with magnetic signs
A magnetic sign earns its keep when one vehicle has two lives: a real estate agent's own SUV, a mobile groomer's family van, a sales rep's car, a contractor's weekend pickup.
Measure the flat panel, not the door
A magnet only holds where it sits flat on steel along every edge. Lay a straightedge across the door and mark where body lines, handles, trim and emblems begin. The biggest clean rectangle inside those marks is your limit; leave about an inch of margin on each side. Our pairs run from 12 x 3 up to 24 x 12 inches. Many pickups and SUVs have a crease through the middle of the door, so a long, low size such as 24 x 6 often fits where a taller one won't. Keep the sign clear of the door gap, or it rubs every time the door opens.
Daily habits that save paint
- Take the signs off before an automatic car wash, and overnight if the vehicle parks on the street.
- Clean under the magnet on a schedule, not when you remember: damp cloth on the door and on the magnet back, then let both dry fully before refitting. Trapped moisture marks paint too.
- Check the front edge before you drive. Wind at highway speed works on any lifted corner. A sign with a curled corner should be replaced, not taped.
- Lift from a corner with your fingers. Don't pry with a tool or peel it back on itself.
Storing them
Store them flat, lettering up, on a shelf or stuck to a steel surface such as a filing cabinet. Don't roll them, fold them or leave them under tools in a hot truck bed; a magnet that takes a bend can stop sitting flat. Just had the panel painted? Ask the body shop how long to wait before anything goes on it.
