What New Jersey requires on a commercial truck

The short answer

Trucks based in New Jersey: New Jersey is stricter than the federal rule and it applies to EVERY commercial vehicle, even light ones: owner name plus the municipality of your principal place of business, in letters at least 3 inches tall, in plain view. Pickup with a business name on it? This is the rule that covers it.

Also in New Jersey: GVW / GVWR Rating (26,001 lbs or more).

Interstate trucks also follow the federal rule: name and USDOT number on both sides of the power unit from 10,001 lbs (49 CFR 390.21T(b)(2)); other triggers in the federal box below.
