Why they are always too small
Most dock numbers were sized by somebody standing three feet away. The person who needs to read them is backing a fifty-three foot trailer from a hundred feet out, in a mirror. Ten inches is the floor. Eighteen is better. Twenty-four is what the big distribution centres use.

Where they stick
Painted block, corrugated roll-up doors, steel frames and dock bumpers. Corrugated is the one to tell us about, because a number that spans the ribs needs to be cut in sections to lie flat.
