How big should the numbers be
The International Fire Code, which most towns adopt, asks for address numbers at least 4 inches tall with a half-inch stroke, in a color that contrasts with the background and readable from the street. Some towns ask for more on businesses, so check yours. As a rough guide, plan on about 10 feet of easy reading for every inch of height: 4 inch numbers for a house close to the road, 6 to 8 inches if you are set back, 10 to 12 on a building front.
Painted signs and doors
Vinyl sticks to paint that is sound and fully cured. Fresh paint needs at least a week, longer for oil-based. On an old sign, press a strip of packing tape on the paint and pull it off: if flakes come with it, scrape and touch up that spot first, because vinyl can only hold as well as the paint under it. Wash with soapy water, rinse, and let it dry before you apply.
Gold, not gold leaf
Our gold is a solid gold-colored outdoor vinyl. It reads warm and clean on dark green, black, navy or red paint and costs a fraction of hand-laid leaf. If you want the mirror-bright look of real metal, our metallic lettering is cut from metallic film.
Number and street on one sign
Most address signs put the number large and the street name smaller underneath. Type both in the box and we set them that way. If you want one line, or the street name first, say so and we lay it out to match.
Not sure of the size
Send a photo of the spot with a tape measure in the shot. We lay the address on your photo at the real size so you can see it before anything is cut.
