The opposite of normal lettering
Standard lettering keeps the letters and throws away the rest. Knockout keeps the field and removes the letters. On glass, your name shows as clear glass inside a solid block. On a wall, it shows as the wall color.
Why it looks expensive
The eye reads a knockout as a fabricated sign panel rather than a sticker. It is the cheapest way to make a storefront look like it had a sign company involved.
